It is held in the far northern wet tropics of Queensland, in a small Hamlet called Rossville, in the Shire of Cook. [location viewing via “Google earth” satellite or in an atlas, but unlikely to be found on a regular Qld map]. We are situated 40 minutes south of Cooktown [by car] & approx. 3hrs north of the Daintree River via the Bloomfield Track [4wd] and 4 hrs North of Cairns via the Mulligan Highway [2wd].

This annual festival was initiated in 2002 and has become a showcase for Cook Shire; seeding, supporting and encouraging local and regional emerging, professional musicians and artists Queensland and Australia wide.

This event is held over 3 days and includes 2 music stages alternating between each other, hosting many genres of music; a children’s festival; numerous workshops; street theatre; poets breakfast and market stalls.

Our festival is held during the September school holidays.

What are we offering?...The ultimate gig and holiday retreat in the far northern Wet Tropics. Beautiful scenery, relaxation,…a peaceful natural sanctuary with adventure at your fingertips!.

The venue is Homerule Rainforest Lodge, which is in a World Heritage listed area, set in a horseshoe of Wallaby Creek. It is surrounded by mountains, rainforest, waterfalls and boasts numerous swimming holes with NO Crocodiles. Home of the magnificent Ulysses Butterfly, Azure Kingfisher, Cassowary, Platypus and a diverse range of other exotic Flora and Fauna.

Guided bush walks, Black Mountain and Cedar Bay National Parks are at our front door and the Great Barrier Reef is only a quick hop, skip and a jump away. “This is the heart of where the Rainforest meets the Reef!”

A truly unique and exquisite experience.

We are situated in a low socio-economic area, therefore to make the festival affordable to locals and travelers, we rely heavily on grants funding, sponsorship, donations and dedicated volunteers to support the budget.

Quotes and bios that include workshops and an element of in-kind are looked upon favorably. It would be great to have you as our guest and look forward to hearing from you soon!

Wallaby Creek Festival is run by a dedicated bunch of volunteers for the love of live original music & includes visual & performing arts for the benefit of Cook Shire Communities & visitors.

The governing body is Cape York Folk Club Inc.
