The Location
The festival is located at Home Rule Rainforest Lodge at Rossville, Far North Queensland, north of Cairns and just south of Cooktown.
There are two options for getting to the festival from the South.
The Coastal Road
The coast road is considered the most scenic of the two routes, but 4WD
is highly recommended. Leaving Cairns you travel north to the Daintree
River , cross the river via the vehicle ferry (there is a fee), then
continue through the Daintree Wet Tropics to Cape Tribulation . After
Cape Tribulation the road continues to Bloomfield , across the
Bloomfield River and along the edge of Cedar Bay National Park before
reaching Rossville. Home Rule Rainforest Lodge is just 3km from the center of Rossville. The scenery is spectacular all the way! Please be careful of the wildlife on the road.
Distance: approx. 230km
Driving time: approx. 4 ½ hrs
The Inland Road
This road is slightly longer than the coastal road, however is much shorter in travel time. Early in 2006 sealing the last section of this road was completed, thereby providing easy access for all vehicles. From Cairns take the road to Mareeba via the Kuranda Range . From Mareeba head to Mt Molly and take the Peninsula Development Road through Mt Carbine and the Palmer River Roadhouse to Lakeland . At Lakeland continue along the Cooktown Developmental Road as far as the right turn to Helenvale, just before Black Mountain National Park . Travel south along the Bloomfield Track, past the historic Lion's Den Hotel to Rossville. Home Rule Rainforest Lodge is just 3km from the centre of Rossville.
Distance: approx. 300km
Driving time: approx. 3 hrs
Bus Service
Country Road Coachlines runs a bus service to Cooktown alternating between the Coast Road and the Inland road on different days of the week. The coastal route goes through Rossville and can drop you at Home Rule upon request. Check the website for more details.
